Pints With a Priest

Thursday, August 12, 2021

Fr. David Bailey was our speaker for the August Pints with a Priest. Fr. David Bailey was newly ordained for the Diocese of Tyler in May and is currently the Parochial Vicar at St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Flint. He gave a talk on “The Sacramentality of Beauty”, introducing the 20+ young people present to the thoughts of St. John Damascene, Pope St. John Paul II, and others on this topic. Check out some photos from the evening! The St. Philip Institute hosts Pints with a Priest every month at True Vine Brewing Company here in Tyler. All young adults (ages 18-35) in the Diocese of Tyler are invited to join us!

Matt & Mikki Sciba joined us for this month’s Pints with a Priest to talk about “Lessons Learned While Dating”. They talked to the 20+ young adults about the importance of maintaining healthy emotional & physical boundaries in a dating relationship in order to discern well. Check out some photos from the event! Our next Pints with a Priest will be on Thursday, August 12th at True Vine Brewing Company!

Sr. Josephine Garrett CSFN hosted our second Pints with a Priest, accompanied by Fr. Hank, to discuss the mental health of young adults. She explained how features of modern culture, such as social media and a lack of good friendships, have seriously affected the mental health of millennials and Gen Z. She then went on to give some practical advice on how to counteract these trends, and encouragement that it is a struggle worth making for the sake of the Kingdom! We had a lot of interested onlookers as Sr. Josephine gave her talk, and afterward many young adults stayed behind to chat and build community! Check out some photos from the evening!

The St. Philip Institute hosted its very first Pints with a Priest. Fr. Lowry (Pastor of St. Edwards in Athens) led a discussion on The Four Loves by C.S Lewis. Joined by 14 young adults, Fr. Lowry discussed the importance of Storge, Philia, Eros, and Agape and how although each one is different, they overlap each other and strengthen relationships. This was a great launch of “Pints with a Priest” a ministry with the purpose of building and strengthening friendships among the Young Adult Community in the Diocese of Tyler.

We welcome any Young Adults (ages 18-39) to join us for the next “Pints with a Priest “on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at True Vine Brewing Company (2453 Earl Campbell Pkwy, Tyler, TX 75701) at 7 pm. Come enjoy pizza, drinks, and most importantly community!
