Lesson 17: “Lord Teach Us How to Pray (1)”
The Lord’s Prayer, commonly known as the “Our Father,” is the model of prayer Jesus gives to his disciples in the Gospels. The emphasis on understanding ourselves in relationship to God as a child to his father is vital for every disciple, and this relationship is made possible through baptism. The Our Father is the simple prayer of a child to his father, and this underscores the need for humility as we go to God in prayer.
Discussion Questions:
1. Do I see myself as a child of God? If not, why?
2. Do I understand this as my fundamental identity, or do I put my identity in other things, like social acceptance or even national or family heritage?
3. Is heaven a place for you, or a feeling, or what?
“Acquire the habit of speaking to God as if you were alone with Him, familiarly and with confidence and love, as t the dearest and most loving of friends.” -St. Alphonsus Liguori
